Biography

Herman Meyboom, born in the former Dutch West Indies, was one of the many swimmers of the time who also excelled at water polo. He was more successful in the latter, winning silver at the 1908 Olympics and bronze in 1912. Competing in the 100 metres freestyle, he was eliminated in the heats at both Games.

Meyboom was the Belgian 100 metres freestyle champion in 1908, 1909, and 1913 (shared with Joseph Cludts) and 200 freestyle champion in 1908. In 1914, he was listed as Belgian record holder in the 100 yards and 100 metres freestyle, as well as the 400 metres backstroke. Meyboom later moved to France, becoming a French citizen in 1925. He lived in Vincennes.
