Turning pro the next year, he gradually moved into the heavyweight class. In 1971, he twice fought Rudie Lubbers for the Dutch heavyweight title, but lost on both occasions. In 1964, Van Duivenbode had been awarded the Dutch light-heavyweight title, based on his fight results. Following his boxing career, Van Duivenbode moved into the trotting horse business.
