Biography

The German 100m backstroke champion from 1935-37 Christel Rupke was eliminated in the heats of the 100m backstroke at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. She retired in 1938 and married, but sadly her husband was killed-in-action in the early stage of World War II. The same happened to her second husband, whom she married in 1943, and he was killed-in-action in 1945. After World War II she worked for the town hall in her hometown Solingen.
