Biography

Jikirum Adjaluddin was the only Southeast Asian to qualify for the semi-finals of more than one swimming event at one Olympics, until 2016. At the 1932 Olympics, he placed fifth in the final of the 200 m breaststroke. Four years later, Adjaluddin reached the semi-finals of the 100 m freestyle and the 200 m breaststroke. As a member of the 4 x 200 m freestyle relay team, however, he failed to qualify for the final. Adjaluddin also competed in two Far Eastern Games. In 1930 and 1934, he medalled in the 200 m breaststroke, taking silver and bronze, respectively. With the 4 x 200 m freestyle relay team, Adjaluddin claimed silver in 1934. He died in 1938 at the age of just 26.
