Biography

Gaston Pelletier was a Canadian ice hockey player and coach who spent most of his career in Switzerland. Pelletier began his playing career with the Québec Citadelles in 1952 before joining the Brighton Tigers in England for the 1954–55 season. Following a brief spell in France, he then spent more than 15 years playing for teams in Switzerland, most notably for HC La Chaux-de-Fonds from 1966 until 1976. During this time also he served in the dual role of the club’s player-coach, leading the side to six consecutive league titles. Pelletier’s coaching skills earned him a spell of leading the Swiss national team, helping them to promotion to Group A in the World Championships in 1971. The following year he coached the Swiss team at the 1972 Sapporo Olympics, although Switzerland finished tenth out of the eleven participating nations.
