Louis Østrup became a member of Boldklubben Frem as a 14-year-old playing football and cricket. At the age of just 17 he was elected treasurer of the club. He played a total of 47 first-team matches in cricket for Frem and helped the club win the local cricket tournament for the first time in 1894. Østrup also played football in the club’s first team, but was only a reserve player when the club won the Danish championship tournament in 1902.
In 1911, Østrup became a member of the board of the Copenhagen Football Union, and later that year vice-chairman of the Danish Football Union (DBU). From 1918-35 he acted as sixth chairman of the DBU. In 1921, he was elected vice-president of FIFA and held this post until 1927. In 1935, Frem was one of the clubs that did not support him in a dispute within the DBU which eventually led to his resignation. As of today (2025), he is still the longest serving president of the DBU.
In 1915, Østrup was made Consul General of Costa Rica and became director of a trading agency. Louis was married to Elna Nicoline Østrup and had two children. He eventually settled in Hellerup. His decorations included the Swedish Order of Vasa, Norwegian Football Association’s honorary badge in gold, the Dutch Football Association’s badge of honour and Frem’s gold pin. In 2009, he was posthumously made an honorary member of Frem.
