Biography

Carlo Gambarotta started refereeing in 1938, and worked his way up from the third league in 1950, to making his Serie A début in 1957. When he took charge of his final match, between Internazionale and Atalanta, on 31 May 1964, it was his 84th top fight game. In addition, he refereed 77 Serie B matches.

Gambarotta was never included in the official list of FIFA referees, but was on a special list of “international class” officials and, as a result, acted as a linesman at the 1960 Roma Olympics. He also took control of two Inter-Cities Fairs Cup matches; Red Star Beograd and Rapid Wien (November 1962) and NK Zagreb and Belenenses Lisboa (September 1963).
