Biography

G. H. Morton played for the Brooklands Hockey Club, Sale, and also represented Cheshire in county matches. He was appointed honorary treasurer of the Northern Counties Hockey Association in 1903 and held the post until 1923 when he was appointed a vice-president. Morton also served on the England international selection committee.

A qualified umpire, Morton dovetailed his playing and officiating career in the early part of the 20th century, but then concentrated on umpiring. He officiated in county and international matches and was one of the umpires for the first Olympic final at London in 1908, when England beat Ireland 8-1.
