Between 1954-56, Giuseppe Adami refereed 64 matches in Series B and then, from 1956-64, officiated in a further 104 games in Serie A. He won the Giovanni Mauro Award as Best Referee of the Year for 1962.

Adami started his international career in 1960, and at the Roma Olympics that year, was used as only a linesman. After his retirement, Adami became an official of the A. I. A. (Associazione Italiana Arbitri), the Association of Italian Football Referees, and was a vice-president from 1972-81, when he was also a UEFA observer of referees.
