Biography

Bep Willing started his career as a referee before 1900 and officiated matches on the top national level until 1921. From 1904 he was also appointed on international level, from 1906 also official matches of national teams with his début in a Netherlands vs Belgium game. The last of his 15 assignment was Denmark’s sensational 3-0 victory over England in 1914. At the 1912 Olympic Games he refereed four games including the fervid final of the consolation round between Austria and Hungary. The contemporary press considered him as “the best referee at the Olympics”. Willing served for many years as a board member of HBS Den Haag and of The Hague Football Association.
