Ismail Kasseb was involved with football for over half a century as a player and referee. As a player, he was a member of Cairo’s Al-Ahly club and scored one of the winning goals in his team’s 2-0 victory in the Egypt Cup final in 1930. By the 1940s he had begun serving as a referee domestically, notably in the final matches of the Egypt Cup and the Cairo League each year, but he was also certified internationally. His most notable appearance in this regard came at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, when he was a linesman in the round one match between Turkey and Curaçao.
