Biography

Rolando Fusco was a Canadian football referee born in central Italy. As a youngster, he moved to Foxboro, Ontario, Canada, and went on to become an international football referee in the early 1970s. At the 1976 Montréal Olympics, Fusco made two appearances as a linesman. The highlight of his career was in 1979 when he officiated at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Japan, and was referee for the Argentina versus Indonesia march at Omiya. The South Americans won 5-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Ràmon Diaz, with Diego Maradona scoring the other two goals.

Fusco also refereed two qualifying matches for the FIFA World Cup. He was in charge of the game between El Salvador and Honduras in 1982, and the USA and Netherlands Antilles four years later. In 1981 Fusco received the “Ray Morgan Memorial Award” as the best Canadian referee.
