Biography

Before turning professional in 1937, Dick Degener won a total of 12 AAU titles, including five straight wins in the indoor springboard, beginning in 1932. After graduating from the University of Michigan, where he won two NCAA championships, Degener represented the Detroit AC. Known as the “Fred Astaire of diving”; he was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1971.
