Biography

German volleyball player Ines Pianka was on the squad that placed eighth at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. In 1989 she won the silver medal at the European Championships (representing the former GDR), and in 1991 she won the bronze medal representing re-unified Germany. In total, she won 259 international caps.

At club level Pianka played with Dynamo Sassnitz (1977-84), SC Dynamo Berlin (1984-90), USC Münster (1990-92), CJD Feuerbach (1992-93), and 1. VC Schwerte (1993-98). In 1985-90 she won six consecutive national titles with Dynamo Berlin in the former GDR and the East German cups in 1989 and 1991. After re-unification, she added another national title in 1992 with Münster, and won the 1991 German cup with Münster, and in 1998 with Schwerte. Pianka was named Volleyball Player of the Year in Germany in 1991 and 1995.

In 1998, Pianka turned to beach volleyball, partnering Jana Vollmer, American Tonya Williams, and Stephanie Pohl. She won the national title with Williams in 2003. Pianka retired and turned to coaching in 2005.
