Biography

Jürgen Stiefel was on the West German water polo team both at the 1972 München and 1976 Montréal Olympics. The team finished in fourth and sixth place, respectively. Domestically, he played with SSV Esslingen, and he earned 231 international caps. In 1981 he won the European Championships in Split, Yugoslavia. At the 1978 Worlds in Berlin he was the top scorer of the Championships.

His children Sandra, Jennifer “Jenny” and Robert as well as his nephew, Steffen Dierolf, also became water polo players. By profession, Stiefel was an economic engineer and co-owned a company for data processing and computer devices until his retirement. He then immigrated in 2004 to California in the United States.
