Biography

István Hevesi started his sports career in his hometown of Eger, and would eventually play water polo for Hungary at the 1956 and 1960 Olympic Games. Hevesi also won two gold medals at the European Championships in 1954 and 1958. He was capped 73 times in water polo between 1953 and 1960. Besides water polo he also competed in swimming, winning three national championships. Hevesi later managed the aquatic divisions of Budapesti Honvéd. As a member of Honvéd – the Hungarian Military Force team – he had a military career and retired as a colonel, then working as a taxi driver.
