Algerian weightlifter Mohamed Gouni won multiple African and Arab titles, setting several records in the process. Gouni competed at three editions of both the World Championships and the Mediterranean Games, winning silver at the latter in 1979 in the featherweight class. This performance earned him a place on the Olympic team for the 1980 Moskva Games, where he placed 11th. Following his competitive career Gouni became a coach and trainer as well as the manager of the national team.
