Biography

As a youngster, Abe Greenhalgh broke his spine after a fall downstairs. He was wheelchair-bound until the age of 14, and only took to weightlifting in order to develop his frail body. The fact that he went on to become the British bantamweight champion, and press record holder, was an amazing achievement. Furthermore, he was selected for the 1948 London Olympics, where the Bolton United Harriers man finished 13th in the bantamweight class.
