Biography

Bridgend’s William Randall went to the 1924 Paris Olympics full of optimism, having enjoyed a remarkable spell of success leading up to the Games. The only Welshman to compete in the weightlifting events in Paris, he was the reigning Welsh lightweight champion. Less than a month before setting sail for France, Randall broke three Welsh records in one day at Bridgend, which meant he simultaneously held eight Welsh records. That all counted for nothing at the Olympics, where he was outclassed and finished 20th out of 22.
