Biography

Heavyweight lifter Jürgen Ciezki won silver medals at both the 1974 and 1978 World Championships and bronze medals in 1975 and 1977. At the Europeans he won bronze in 1974-77 and 1980, and silver in 1978. At the 1976 Montréal Olympics he was fifth. Ciezki won the East German national title in 1972 and 1974-78.

After German re-unification, former East German officials admitted to administering doping to nearly all Olympic athletes, including weightlifter Ciezki. It became known that he would not compete at Moskva in 1980, due to an internal positive doping test shortly before the Games.
