Biography

Weightlifter Hans Claussen from Lübeck finished 11th in the light-heavyweight division at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games at the age of 41. At the 1935 and 1938 World Championships he came in fifth in the middleweight and sixth in the light-heavyweight respectively. Claussen also won six (West) German Championships, at middleweight in 1942-43 and 1948, at light-heavyweight in 1950 and 1952 and at middle-heavyweight in 1951. Claussen, a butcher by trade, appeared in six international matches in 1950 and 1952.
