Biography

Weightlifter Dieter Rauscher finished eleventh in the featherweight class at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. He was originally based in East Berlin, but defected to West Germany during the inter-national qualifications for the 1964 Tokyo Games. From 1965-67 he won the West German featherweight and from 1969-71, the national lightweight title. Rauscher studied sports and worked as a teacher in a German high school.
