Biography

Roberto Vezzani was an Italian weightlifter from the Tuscany region. A member of the G.S. Vigili del Fuoco Ruini of Firenze since 1966, he won his first Italian title the following year. He also finished second in the Mediterranean Games in 1967. He enjoyed his most successful period as a heavyweight in the early-1970s. Vezzani had the fifth best total and was runner-up in the clean and jerk at the 1970 World Championships, and was third in the military press at the 1971 Worlds. He then finished fifth at the München Olympics. He represented Italy in international competition 70 times, and set 77 Italian records, including eight at the 1970 World Championships and six at the 1972 Olympics. His last national title was in 1976 when he was a member of the Brunetti-S.C.A Group of Roma.
