Biography

Ravil Khabutdinov took up weightlifting in 1948 while serving in the Soviet Army and rose to prominence in 1956 when he won bronze in the lightweight division at the Soviet championships and was selected for the Soviet national team. Khabutdinov’s international career lasted only two years but, in that time, he won an Olympic lightweight silver in 1956, European middleweight silver in 1956 and European the lightweight title in 1957. He also won his only Soviet title in 1957 as a lightweight. During his career Khabutdinov also set eight press world records, six of them in lightweight class and two as a middleweight.
