Biography

Mike Karchut attended Case Western Reserve University, graduating in 1966 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He later worked as a numerical control engineer. Karchut was US Junior Champion in 1965 and won the 1966 US YMCA Championship. He was an eight-time US Senior Champion, winning titles in 1969-73, 1975, 1978, and 1980. At the 1971 Pan American Games, Karchut won three gold medals and a silver, including gold in the all-around. He set nine American records and competed at five World Championships. Karchut later worked as a computer programmer and coached weightlifting at Altitude Athletics in Bozeman, Montana.
