Joseph Dumont was a longtime figure in the sport of wrestling in his hometown of Liège, where he was involved for over 30 years. He enjoyed a fairly successful career, capturing the 1924 national title in his weight class, and became a coach and organizer for several years following his retirement from competition. A member of the 1924 Belgian Olympic team, Dumont lost in the second round of the middleweight Greco-Roman competition to Edvard Westerlund of Finland, who later went on to win the gold medal.
