Reino Kangasmäki captured a surprising bronze medal in the newly created Greco-Roman wrestling flyweight class that was contested at the 1948 Olympics for the first time. The 1948 Olympics were Kangasmäki’s only major international tournament. Domestically, Kangasmäki never won a Finnish title, earning Greco-Roman bantamweight bronze in 1943 and Greco-Roman flyweight silver in 1947, although he didwin the Finnish Workers’ Sports Federation Greco-Roman flyweight title in 1948, while taking bronze in Greco-Roman bantamweight in 1943 and 1945.
