Biography

August Rajala was runner-up in the light-heavyweight at the 1909 and 1914 Finnish Championships in the colours of Tampereen Pyrintö. He competed in the 1912 and 1920 Olympics in the middleweight B and light-heavyweight divisions, respectively. In 1912, he narrowly missed a medal after losing by decision to Hungarian bronze medalist Béla Varga. In 1920, he was shouldered by Émile Wahlen from Belgium in the third round and was the only Finnish wrestler in the Greco-Roman tournament, who went home without a medal.
