Biography

Freestyle wrestler Helmut Strumpf finished eighth in the featherweight class at the 1976 Montréal Olympics, having won a silver medal at the European Championships the previous year. In 1972, 1974 and 1979 Strumpf won the East German national title. He trained as a butcher, but later became Regional Chief Coach in Thuringia.
