Biography

Heiko Balz was a German freestyle wrestler who won the silver medal in the heavyweight class at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Four years later at Atlanta, he was eliminated in the third classification round. He started his wrestling career in East Germany, winning the Youth Europeans in 1989.

After re-unification, he won two bronze medals in 1991 and 1993 at the World Championships. He also won three silver (1992, 1994, 1996) and a bronze medal (1991) at the Europeans. Balz claimed six national titles in Germany (1991-92, 1994, 1998-2000). He later studied business administration.
