Biography

Wrestling brothers Alfons and Lorenz Hecher, from ASV Schorndorf, both competed at the 1972 home Olympics at München. Alfons was eliminated in the third round of the freestyle heavyweight event. He wrestled in both styles and won the West German Greco-Roman West German title in 1969; and the freestyle title in 1969-72 and 1974. In 1969, the bronze medal he won at the European Championships at Modena was his finest sporting moment. By profession, he trained as a machine fitter, and later also coached wrestling at his home club.
