Biography
Freestyle wrestler Andreas Schröder won a bronze medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, representing East Germany in the super-heavyweight division. At Barcelona in 1992, he represented re-unified Germany and placed fifth.
In 1987, Schröder was World Champion, and added a silver in 1987, and bronze medals in 1982 and 1986. He also won four gold medals at the Europeans in 1986, 1990-92, a silver in 1987, and three bronze medals in 1984-85 and 1988. Nationally, he was East German champion in 1982-88 and German champion in 1991.
After his active career, during which Schröder worked as an employee of the municipality of Aalen, he completed an apprenticeship at the Deutsche Sporthochschule in Köln, and became regional coach at the Württemberg Wrestling Association at the Stuttgart Olympic Regional Base.
