Biography

Ede Sperling won a silver medal in 1928 at Amsterdam as a lightweight Greco-Roman, adding a bronze medal in 1932 at Los Angeles. In this class he was European Champion in 1927, 1929, and 1931 and German champion in 1927 and 1931-34. In 1936 he added another title as a featherweight. In 1930 and 1932 he was also German team champion and represented Germany in 12 international meetings. Sperling started as a boxer, but quickly switched to wrestling. From 1925-28 he lived in Nürnberg to work with local coach Karl Döppel. His profession was chauffeur and caretaker.
