Biography

Claude Constantino’s father was from Cape Verde, but moved to Senegal at a young age, where Claude was born. The younger Constantino took up basketball in 1951 and received training in France, but represented Senegal internationally throughout his career. His most notable appearance came at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, where Senegal was classified 15th overall after losing all seven of its round robin matches; Constantino played in all of these games, as well as its classification loss to South Korea and victory over Morocco. That same year, he helped his country win the African Championships. He later turned to coaching, but became particularly noted for his roles in the administration of basketball, serving in numerous capacities at the national level and with FIBA Africa. Domestically he was Secretary General of the Senegalese Basketball Federation, but also travelled to Cape Verde as a technical advisor for their teams.
