Mor Wade began his wrestling career in 1974, competing in the traditional matches in the Louga region in Senegal. Two years later Wade left his hometown to compete in more high-profile matches in Dakar, mastering both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, and even judo. By the 1990s he had become one of the best wrestlers in the country, winning gold in the unlimited freestyle at the 1992 African Championship. That same year Wade competed in the super-heavyweight class at the Barcelona Olympics but lost to Mahmut Demir (TUR) in his opening bout. He had further success at the African Championship, winning silver in both 1993 and 1994, along with a bronze at the 1995 All-African Games. At the end of his career he became a mentor and trainer for young wrestlers, including founding his own wrestling school.
