Biography

Alfred Jauch of Basel came on to the wrestling scene in 1940 when he won the national junior lightweight title at the 1940 Greco-Roman wrestling championships in Lausanne. The runner-up to 1936 Olympian Oskar Holinger in the lightweight class at the 1945 Swiss Greco-Roman wrestling championships, he was selected for the Swiss national team in 1948 to compete at the London Olympics. There, he unfortunately did not see much success, withdrawing from the first round.

Jauch continued to compete throughout the 1950s and won his only Swiss Greco-Roman title, in the welterweight class, in 1951. He also wrestled in the freestyle category, though did not win any titles.
