Joe Fortenberry was 6-8 (2.03) tall and many people think he was the first person to dunk a basketball in an organized game. Fortenberry was three-times named All-Conference center while he played at West Texas State and later played AAU ball with the Ogden Boosters, the McPherson Globe Refiners, and the Phillips 66 powerhouses. It was while he was playing with the Globe Refiners that he played for the 1936 Olympic team. Fortenberry was later inducted into the Amateur Basketball Hall of Fame.
