Biography

Bruno Bianchi was a crewmember on the “Italia”, the yacht which contested the 8 metres class in Kiel during the 1936 Olympics. After six of seven races, the Italians trailed Germany by 2 points. But Germany finished only sixth in the final race, while the Italians had a close finish with Sweden. The Swedes were eventually ruled to have won the race, but Italy’s 9 points were enough to take the gold. After the War, Bianchi returned to the Olympics in the Dragon class. He later became secretary of the Italian Sailing Federation (1957-1961). In honor of his sporting achievements, Bianchi was awarded a Gold Medal by the Italian Olympic Committee.
