Dietrich Christensen finished sixth with the 6-metre class sailing team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics at Kiel, where the sailing events took place. Their boat Gustel V was disqualified in races two and five, otherwise it would have won a medal. Only a few weeks earlier, the yacht had won the German national title. He was missed in action since September, 1940, in the North Sea after a Brtish bombing attack.
