Manfred Curry was born in Germany to American parents. He became a scientist in the United States but his hobby was sailing, which led him to the 1928 Olympics. It is said he competed in over 1,400 sailing races, winning 100s of them. Curry wrote a pioneering book on yacht aerodynamics and racing tactics, _ Yacht Racing: The Aerodynamics of Sails and Racing Tactics_, which described how he tested rig configurations in a wind tunnel in Göttingen, Germany. Curry also worked as a physician, specializing in allergy medicine, and founded the American Bioclimatics Research Institute. Some of his work on earth radiation and geomagnetic lines causing allergies is considered pseudoscientific.
