Ukrainian sailor Vitaly Dyrdyra represented the Soviet Union in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Dyrdyra was a two-time USSR champion, winning in the Finn class in 1969 and the Tempest class in 1972. His latter performance earned him a place on the Olympic team for the München Games where he and his partner Valentin Mankin won gold. During his career Dyrdyra won multiple international competitions, including the Helsinki Royal Regatta and the Baltic International Regatta. After his competitive career he worked at the Kyiv Higher Naval Political School where he was the head of the physical training department.
