Fredrik Forsberg graduated from the Göteborg (Gothenburg) Institute of Commerce in 1881. Until 1897, he worked in two major trading firms. In 1898 he was co-founder and co-owner of the company Forsberg & Mark, and was the sole owner from 1916-25. When the company became a public limited company in 1925 he was CEO and chairman of the board until 1933. The company was renamed Fredrik W. Forsberg AB and he retained the same positions until 1939. In addition he was a board member of the Iron Works Association, a financial institute and Göteborg’s Tourist Traffic Association.
Fredrik Forsberg was married to Gabriella “Ella” Wessberg; and they had five children, two sons and three daughters. He was a member of the city council from 1915-18. Forsberg was also the first consul of Persia in Göteborg. He was appointed Knight of the Order of the North Star and the Order of Vasa and was awarded the Persian Order of the Lion and the Turkish Order of Meschidie.
At the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, Forsberg he was the helmsman of the Marga placing fourth and last in both races of the 10-metre class. Marga II was designed by C.O. Liljegren and built by Hästholm Boatyard in 1910 for Forsberg. The boat was refurbished after 2010 and is still being sailed as of 2025. In 1917 Forsberg commissioned the Marga III. He was chairman of the Aeolus Sailing Society and Sweden’s and Göteborg’s Rowing Association.
