Biography

Frank Jewett sailed in the one-person dinghy class at the 1936 Olympics. He sailed mostly out of the Southern Massachusetts Yacht Racing Association (SMYRA). Jewett was a leader in the administration of that club and was instrumental in changing many of the rules of sailing to their modern formats. In 1965 he persuaded the North American Yacht Racing Union (NAYRU) to restore the Prince of Wales bowl as the perpetual trophy for the SMYRA interclub match racing championship. Jewett had won the Prince of Wales bowl in 1934, 1935, and 1937, along with Kingman Brewster, Jr., and they had retired the trophy.
