Biography

John Lovell competed in sailing at four Olympic Games – 1996 to 2008, always in the Tornado multi-hull class, and always alongside Charlie Ogletree. The pair won a silver medal in 2004, and also won a silver medal at the 2004 World Championships in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Lovell and Ogletree had quite a year in 2004, also winning the North American Championship and the HRH Prince Sofia Trophy in Palma de Mallorca. They also won the US Sailing’s Rolex Miami Olympic Class Regatta in 1993, and 2005-06. Lovell and Ogletree were actually born on the same day, 11 October 1967.

Lovell attended the College of Charleston, graduating in 1990 with a degree in business and finance. He was a four-time sailing ICSA All-American in college. Lovell worked as a certified public accountant.
