Biography

East German sailor Uwe Steingroß partnered with Jörg Schramme at the 1976 Montréal Olympics in the Olympic Yachting Center at Kingston, Ontario and at the 1980 Olympics when the sailing events were held in Tallinn in Estonia. At Kingston they were in the Flying Dutchman class and finished 15th. At Tallinn they then moved to the Tornado multi-hull boat class and placed eighth. In 1976 and 1979 they won the nationals with the Flying Dutchman.

Steingroß was trained as a metal cutter mechanic and studied sports at the DHfK Leipzig. After re-unification he founded his own company producing precision parts for high-tech equipment used in space cameras or welding robots for automobile production.
