Biography

Jürgen Vogler was the first World class sailor from the former GDR. He finished fourth in the One Person Dinghy at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. The same year he won the silver medal in the Flying Dutchman class at the World Championships. He won the Finn Gold Cup in 1957, was sixth in 1958 and fourth in 1959. After the German reunification, it became known that he was an active member of the East German Ministerium für Staatssicherheit (Ministry for State Security) as IM “Segel”, who spied on several of his colleagues and teammates.
