During the 1980s Finnish sailor Johan von Koskull enjoyed success in the 470 class along with his brother Peter. At the European championships the Koskull brothers won the 470 title in 1984 and 1987, and finished in third place in 1988. In Finland they won the national championship on four occasions (1982, 1987–88), and the Nordic championship in 1984. The brothers competed at two Olympics, finishing in sixth place at the 1984 Los Angeles Games and in 16th place at the 1988 Seoul Games.
