Biography

During a career that spanned 35 seasons Polish sailor Leon Wróbel won multiple medals both at home and in international competitions. Wróbel had success early in his career when he won gold at the 1968 World Championships in the Cadet class, before winning another gold at the 1971 Championships, this time in the Hornet class. His best record was in the 470 class, forming a strong partnership with compatriot Tomasz Stocki. Together the pair won nine Polish titles (1974–76, 1978–83) and three bronze medals at the European Championships (1976, 1978, 1979). In 1980 the pair finished fifth at the Moskva Olympics, only dropping out of medal contention after a couple of poor results in the last two of the seven races in the event. In 1995 Wróbel won his 10th and final national title, once again partnered with Stocki in the Micro class.
