Biography

Argentine track and field athlete Carlos Bianchi was a talented sprinter who won multiple titles during his short life. Bianchi won his first medal at the South American Championships in Athletics when he finished second in the 100 metres in 1929. Two years later, at his home championships in Buenos Aires, he did the double by winning the 100 and 200 metres, setting a championship record in the latter. He was also part of the quartet that won gold in the 4 x 100 metres relay. His performances earned him a place on the team for the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics. He reached the semi-finals of the 100 metres and finished fifth in the 200 metres, setting a world record time in the quarter-finals. Sadly Bianchi died in October 1935 at the age of 24 from an acute abdominal ailment.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.4 (1933); 200 – 21.46 (1932).
