During the 1920s and early 1930s Argentine sprinter Roberto Genta won eight medals at the South American Championships in Athletics, including three golds. Genta won gold in the 4 x 400 metres relay and bronze in the 200 metres at the 1926 edition in Montevideo. At the following championships in Santiago he won gold in both relay races along with silvers in the 400 metres and the 400 metres hurdles. He then won silver in the 4 x 400 metres hurdles in 1929 and 1931. Genta ran in the 200 metres at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, reaching the semi-finals. He was also named in the Argentine quartet for the 4 × 100 metres relay in Los Angeles but the team did not start in their heat.
